Activities
Mountaineering/Hill Walking
The Great Glen Lodges are placed at the very heart of the Scottish Highlands with over 58 Munroe’s within easy access from the lodges. The Cuillins on Skye is only 1hr 45 min away. The Great Glen way route passes the entrance to the lodges and much of the route can be negotiated from the lodges without using a vehicle.
Game Fishing
Angling for trout and salmon is easily accessible from the lodges with Loch Lochy,
Loch Arkaig, Lochan Tuik to name but a few of the well-known waters that are fished regularly by local anglers. Generally trout fishing is free however some waters charge a small fee. For Salmon fishing on river Lochy or Garry please call for an appointment. The Lodges can also offer the freedom of the Lochs with its own fishing boat and ghillie. See separate web site page.
Canoeing
The Great Glen Lodges are situated on the banks of Loch Lochy. Close to many rivers classed by canoeists as the premier white water rivers in Great Britain. The River Roy is a tributary to the Spean, another excellent river for canoeists. The Orchy, Garry and Nevis rivers are all within easy reach.
Mountain cycling/World cup downhill
The Aonach Mor mountain gondola reaches a height of 2150ft and is the start point for Britain’s biggest down hill mountain bike track. Aonach Mor is only 12 miles from the Great Glen Lodges. The newly finished Great Glen Way consists of purpose built mountain bike tracks all the way to Inverness (60 miles). Leanachan Forest at Nevis Range is home to some of Britain’s best mountain biking, ranging from gentle family trails to international standard race routes. There are 25 miles of marked routes forming a mixture of rolling forest tracks, a trail quest orienteering course and a technical single track; there is no cost for using tracks.
Motor Cycling/ 6-day trial
Some of the best motor cycling roads in the Country are to be found in the North West of Scotland. The central position of The Great Glen Lodges lends itself well to completing a different circular route each day. Fort William is also the venue for the Scottish Six day trial event. Motor Cyclists should take care when riding the last half-mile to the lodges as it is a rough dirt track.
